Getting Started
Begin by looking for a book chapter or section of the book or eBook that deals with the act/policy you are working on. You might even find an entire book if you are lucky! EBooks are not free, but free to you with your Montclair NetID. From off-campus, you will need to log in with your NetID and password.
Search Tip:
- Limit to books (which will include print books and ebooks).
- Check the author. Government publications will have have a government author. e.g. United States. Congress.
- Reorder the results so that newer books show up first.
- Click on 'View Description' in the catalog record to see the list of chapters in the book you've selected and make sure there's something about your topic.
Sample search strings (for researching Acts):
- "school lunch act"
- "national school lunch act"
- "national school lunch" -- this will catch when the program is referenced
- "Bilingual Education Act"
- "No Child Left Behind Act"
- "elementary and secondary education act"
- "Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act"

Reasons you might not find anything and alternatives
- Limited to what Sprague has bought. (Flip search to 'Libraries Worldwide').
- You will have to use the interlibrary loan service to borrow books we don't own (from another academic library). This can take a few weeks, so you will need to plan ahead.
