Dr. George Walker was an American composer, pianist and organist, and the first African American to win the Pultizer Prize for Music in 1996. Montclair State University awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1997. Upon his death in 2018, Harry A. Sprague Library was given a collection containing scores and sound recordings of his work as well as works by other composers and authors.
