PRIMARY DOCUMENTS -This collections contains more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. These narratives were collected in the 1930s as part of the Federal Writers' Project (FWP) of the Works Progress Administration, later renamed Work Projects Administration (WPA).

PRIMARY DOCUMENTS - From the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Libraries. this collection of "Digitized narratives of fugitive and former slaves published in broadsides, pamphlets or book forms in English up to 1920, and many biographies of former slaves as well."

PRIMARY DOCUMENTS - The Avalon Project, from Yale's Lillian Goldman Law Library, holds primary documents in law, history, and diplomacy. This collection holds documents on History and Literature, Federal Statutes, State Statutes, Treaties and Agreements, and Legal Amendments and Proclamations.

PRIMARY DOCUMENTS - Enslaved.org also provides richly detailed stories of the lives of those enslaved. It is our hope that the stories will provide a context for the importance of recovering the lives of those enslaved. Through the discovery hub we hope to find more links to and between these stories, and over time that our users and contributors can tell new stories.

The SlaveVoyages website is a collaborative digital initiative that compiles and makes publicly accessible records of the largest slave trades in history. Search these records to learn about the broad origins and forced relocations of more than 12 million African people who were sent across the Atlantic in slave ships, and hundreds of thousands more who were trafficked within the Americas. Explore where they were taken, the numerous rebellions that occurred, the horrific loss of life during the voyages, the identities and nationalities of the perpetrators, and much more.
