Using citation managers to organize your research and references, including EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero.


Mendeley is available both as desktop and cloud based software. It's portable, meaning you can take your account with you after leaving Montclair State University.

If you are a frequent user of ScienceDirect, Mendeley will be your best option as they are owned by the same parent company (Elsevier) and integrate well with each other.

Step 1: Download and Mendeley

Mendeley software is available for Windows, OSX, and Linux. If you are using a Chromebook, you will not be able to use the Mendeley desktop software, but will be able to use the cloud-based version.

Step 2: Register for a Mendeley Account

Your Mendeley account will share credentials with Elsevier and the Science Direct databases.

Install either the Mendeley web importer or chrome extension

Step 4: Install Microsoft Word or LibreOffice plugin
